Our History and Vision
Steamers started in a small coffeehouse in the Village of Five Parks in March 2007 by Athan Miller and Scott Parker. Athan and Scott hired 5 adults with developmental disabilities to work along with the staff already working there. In October 2007 Steamers moved into a larger space next door - still in The Village of Five Parks - and Paula Lariviere came to help Athan and Scott run Steamers. Because of this move, along with an increase in staff support, Steamers was able to add 15 more people with developmental disabilities to their list of employees. Athan and Paula created their menu and recipes, and have worked hard to make Steamers into the best local coffeehouse and meeting place possible. Steamers hand makes all of their own food from scratch so that we can provide our customers with healthy, fast options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Over the next two years Steamers began making pies for the holidays, creating a breakfast delivery service and catering for all types of occasions.
Steamers believes it is possible to run a business that is sustainable, successful, inclusive and employs people with developmental disabilities. We want to show other businesses that you can be a for profit organization and still be socially conscience to the world around us. We strive to give back to the community as often as possible - participating in food drives, using all compostable 'to go' items (including corn cups and sugar cane to go boxes). We partner with Mieklejohn Elementary PTA to put on "The Festival At Five Parks 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run".
In April of 2010 Steamers expanded AGAIN! We moved across the street into a larger space. We now have a full service restaurant, Jack's, and serve a variety of meals, including burgers, salads, homemade soups and more. We have a full bar and three flat screen televisions for all you sports fans! We also have a large patio with views of the mountains and flatirons in Boulder. With this larger space we are able to employ even more people with developmental disabilities. Steamers employs more than 30 people with developmental disabilities and we are forever searching for more ways to employ more people.
Steamers also now makes and sells homemade jellies & jams, applesauce and gift baskets. Watch our website for the ability to view and order online. We ship ANYWHERE!
Steamers couldn't be what it is without the support of everyone who lives in The Village of Five Parks. What a great neighborhood Five Parks has turned out to be - and daily we enjoy getting to know our customers better!
